About the Event
Learn about Aurora, IL, "The City of Lights", as we highlight three beautiful, and richly different, churches: Aurora’s “Year of Hope” Pilgrimage site, the old German "Big Woods" church, and another who's history straddles the famed Fox river.
We will meet at Assumption, an intimate church who’s parishioners refused different architectural fads throughout the decades maintaining it’s lovely stone and carved-wood integrity. St Mary's glory is in it’s Gothic structure and remarkable, meditative Zettler windows. The finale, Our Lady of Good Counsel, is a ‘newer’ and even more glorious edifice with a coffered ceiling, baldachin and more. (TBD potential organ demo)
Your experienced guide will meet you outside the first church and stay with you throughout the tour to provide informative context, and thematic continuity.
Meet at: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin: 1820 Church Rd, Aurora, IL (free parking to the north/right of the church)
